Alderman Pawar represents Chicago's 47th ward and entered the 2018 Illinois Governor's Democratic primary race.
About the Presenter:
Alderman Ameya Pawar, SM ’09 & AM ’16, represents Chicago’s 47th ward. He was first elected in the 2011 municipal elections and to a second term on February 24, 2015. Pawar's 2015 re-election was secured with over 82% of the vote, the largest margin in the election cycle. Pawar is the first Indian American and Asian American in Chicago City Council history.
As Alderman, he has passed ten major pieces of city-wide legislation, redirected money to public projects, advanced economic development totaling over $300 million, created the Grow47 initiative to support public school, and partnered with many in his ward to do so much more.
Before serving as Alderman, Pawar worked at Northwestern University in the Office of Emergency Management. While in this position Pawar and two of his University of Chicago classmates wrote a book on emergency management. Alderman Pawar also holds masters from the School of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago.
